The Higginson-Lewis K-8 School celebrated the opening of their new schoolyard and outdoor classroom, designed by Warner Larson, in a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday in the newly transformed space.

The schoolyard was designed as part of the Boston Schoolyard Initiative, a partnership between Boston Public Schools and the Boston Schoolyard Funders Collaborative, and the ceremony was attended by program members, collaborators, city officials, and mayor Thomas Menino. The successful completion of this project marks the 18th year of the initiative, and Warner Larson’s 4th year of collaboration.

The design features woodland and meadow habitat, an outdoor classroom and science lab, vegetable planters, a performance space, and a new playground.
